Herbalism shines when it comes to increasing energy levels physically, mentally and emotionally. These top herbs for energy are not strongly stimulating such as coffee, rather they help to increase stamina, endurance and build life force.

Some herbs are standouts for their energizing abilities. They do this in different ways. They can be gently stimulating to the system, deeply nourishing, restorative, vitality building, and overall strengthening.

Here is a list of the top herbs for energy.

Ginseng Root

Ginseng restores the whole system. It’s a tonic for rebuilding energy as well as increasing cognitive function and mental clarity. Ginseng is also an excellent adaptogen which means it’s restorative and aids recovery from mental or physical stress. Ginseng is best taken for at least three months.

Be careful to purchase only organically cultivated herbs and not those harvested from the wild since it is becoming increasingly rare.

There are different types of ginseng with subtle differences. American ginseng is best suited for those that tend to run hot or that tend towards hypertension. It’s not as warming to the system as Asian ginseng. You may also hear about Siberian ginseng which is actually not a ginseng at all, yet has many of the same medicinal qualities. Its true name is eleuthero and it grows much more abundantly.

These top herbs for energy are called adaptogens in herbalism. They help to boost energy mentally and physically. #Herbalism #HerbalMedicine #BoostEnergy

Fo-ti, also called ho shou wu

Ashwagandha is a great herb for brain function. It’s used to enhance memory and learning while also helping to clear the mind. Aswagandha works to help relieve physical fatigue as well. In particular, it’s used when there is nervous exhaustion since it nourishes the nervous system. It’s another one of those great adaptogens that help with physical and mental stressors. Ashwagandha does have a bitter aftertaste so it is best mixed with other better tasting herbs.

Astragalus is an excellent tonic herb, meaning that it can be taken regularly to energize the entire body and enhance the overall system. It builds vitality by increasing blood flow to the organs, thereby helping with physical endurance and mental clarity. This is yet another wonderful adaptogen helping with recovery from exhaustion. Thank you for the article, I ordered some of your suggestions and if you know of anything herbal that helps with sinus headaches I would love to know! thank you Kim

    1. Hi Kim, For sinus headaches, I would find a qualified herbalist in your area to do a full intake to determine the root cause. They could be caused by congestion, inflammation, infection or even something else.
